Fast growing Bed Bath & Beyond stopped using Fast-Tax and switched to Tax Dimensions. "With our growth rate (and a consolidation of approximately 250 companies) we needed Tax Dimensions' advanced automation tools to stay ahead," was Tax Manager, Prince Miller's concern.
"When Data Technology Group came in they quickly automated a number of routines which we had to do manually in the old system. For example, we have several data sources from our subsidiaries. Our percentage of the apportionment data from subsidiaries had to be combined with other information from various sources and in varying formats. That used to take one-man week; now it is instantaneous. Tax Dimensions also builds a combination report showing all the subsidiary detail and its integration into the apportionment database. This provided a detailed audit trail through each step.
"We also had a substantial number of spreadsheets manually prepared which are now automatically converted into Trial Balance format. That saved another two-man weeks.
"Not withstanding these examples, we found Tax Dimensions cut our compliance time by a third. We are very pleased with both its flexibility and functionality."
Tax Director Hal Shapiro noted for other concerned Directors that, "Data Tech's assistance during implementation and transition was extensive and comprehensive and the customer support during our first filing season was first rate. We couldn't be more pleased with the relationship that has developed between our two companies.

Judy Cabrera, Corporate Tax Manager at Clean Harbors, the leading environmental services provider, had a serious challenge last Summer: as a new arrival to the position she had just five weeks to prepare the 1999 federal tax return. A three-year veteran user of CORPTax as the Tax Manager at her prior company, Judy had major concerns about finishing her returns on time if she brought in CORPTax to her new company.
On the recommendation of another tax manager, Judy tested Tax Dimensions and decided that it seemed to offer the best combination of speed and power to help her avoid what possibly could become a crisis situation. Data Technology installed Tax Dimensions, converted the old system and trained Judy in two days. It was now August 8th, not a comfortable position for a one person tax department.
"Working some nights and weekends," Judy finished the returns on time. "Tax Dimensions was easily more than twice as fast as CORPTax to complete a federal or state return," Judy observed. "If I had installed CORPTax, even though I was an experienced user, I doubt I could have finished my federal return on time, and my states would have been late as well.
"In Tax Dimensions the steps are logical and if you miss something you see it right away; in CORPTax if you make an error you can not see it until the end, then you have to go back and do overrides which take a lot of time. It is the accessibility of the database that makes the difference," she notes. "You can go back and forth and see what you are doing as you are doing it. You can't do that in CORPTax.
"I was really impressed with Tax Dimensions' state system. Data Tech has now got the state tax logic right; I didn't have to make one correction. I particularly liked the Tax Annotations that helped me make some strategic decisions.
"The steps in Tax Dimensions are very logical so you can move faster; CORPTax is a system you have to learn by rote. Tax Dimensions does require you pay attention to those steps and follow them in the correct order; it doesn't let you get away with being sloppy. It has a high powered database under the Excel interface that demands discipline.
"I am going to add Tax Dimensions' new M-1 automation system before next year to make things even faster," added Judy. "I won't have any overtime next summer, at least because of compliance."
